To Blog or Not to Blog

Blogs have become known as a forum where anyone can freely express his or her opinion, no matter what the rest of the world might think of it.  A huge fear in the business world is that if their organization creates a blog, they will not have any control over what is posted and that every disgruntled employee will have their say in a public forum.  Blogs that are used in the business world – whether it’s to support your favorite candidate like the Bush and Kerry blogs or to communicate to a large groups of internal people like Symmetricom’s Symmblog – are quite different than the rant and rave forums.   They offer extensive security and control measures that are totally up to the discretion of you, the publisher.

Secure and Under Your Control

Business blogs are quickly becoming the platform of choice for communication, especially among project teams, departments or divisions, sales channels, customer networks – anywhere large groups of people need to share and exchange information.  As they facilitate frequent and quick communications, blogs promote cohesiveness and group culture and are a simple and easy way to keep all interested parties in the loop.  Most importantly, blogs are easily controlled by you, the publisher, through a variety of safe and secure options.

  • You determine who receives it.  With IMN’s DirectBlog, for instance, you control who receives your blog through the IMN subscription management system that allows people to subscribe to the mailing lists associated with the blog.  Then, through an email, your subscribers are notified when changes to the blog have been made.
  • You can offer password protection.   DirectBlog also offers you the capability of adding a username and password for each subscriber.  In this manner, you can protect your blog from unauthorized readers, whether internal or external to your company.
  • You approve reader comments.   Feedback is encouraged through IMN’s “Letters to the Editor” feature and you, as publisher, can determine which comments will be posted to your blog. You can post them all or select individually, as appropriate to the security levels that you wish to enforce.

More About IMN's DirectBlog

IMN’s DirectBlog essentially provides you with a unique combination of online blog technology and trackable email.  Like our newsletter service, you have complete control over the look and feel of your blog, but you don’t have to worry about writing code or installing any sort of server software or scripts.   And similar to the IMN newsletter content management system, as you make posts to your blog, they appear right within the template that you design.

You can mail the Cover Page of your blog directly to participants, and then, with IMN’s reporting and analytics system, you can find out what content within the blog is most appealing to readers.  If the information is critical for internal communications, you'll know who is fully up-to-speed by being able to see who reads what.  You can also use the online survey tools that newsletter customers use to determine reader opinions and attitudes

IMN’s DirectBlog can be used independently, or it can be combined with your e-newsletters as a way to provide updates between issues.  Either way, DirectBlog allows you to automate and greatly accelerate the blog publishing process while you retain total control.
