Article Pages & "Full Story" Links

There are two common problems that arise on Article Pages that result in incorrect displays when clicking on the “Full Story” links.  Both of these problems are usually the result of an inadvertent layout error that can be easily remedied with the following steps.

  • "No matter what ‘Full Story’ link is clicked on, the same article is always loaded."

Often times, the article assignment setting for Single Articles in the Layout Editor of the Article Pages has been altered from  “Auto” to a specific story and causes the above problem.  In many cases, you as the editor might not even be aware that you have made this change.

If you have inadvertently assigned a specific article to an Article Page, here’s the way to fix it:

  1. Go into the Layout Editor by clicking the red "Layout" button on the Main Menu.
  2. Select the "Article Page" option from the "Page" dropdown menu on the left at the top of the page and then click the "Go" button.
  3. Once on the Article Page template, click the "Edit" button for the "Single Article" element.
  4. Change the "Article Assignment" setting to "[AUTO]" and click "Save."
  5. Click the green "Save Changes" button to save the changes to the layout.

The article page should now function properly.

  • "Clicking on the ‘Full Story’ link just brings me back to the cover page."

If you find this happening, then chances are you accidentally deleted a Single Article element in the Layout Editor.  When all Single Article elements are eliminated, the layout system will re-use the layout settings from the cover page in any region that does not have unique content.   When this happens and you click on the “Full Story” link, you are going to the Article Page but it has the same layout as the cover and therefore looks identical to it.

If you have deleted a Single Article element, here are the steps you can take to fix it:

  1. Go into the Layout Editor by clicking the red "Layout" button on the Main Menu.
  2. Select the "Article Page" option from the "Page" dropdown menu at the top of the page and then click the "Go" button.
  3. In the area where your full story should be, you'll see "Elements in this region come from the Cover Page." At the bottom of that region of the layout will be a red "Customize" button. Click this button.
  4. Select the "Single Article" option from the list of elements provided.
  5. On the "Element Properties" screen that comes up next, be sure to select the "[AUTO]" option for the "Article Assignment" setting, and the "Full Article" option for the "Display Mode" setting. All other settings can be change to fit the general style of the layout.
  6. Click to "Save" the new element.
  7. Click the green "Save Changes" button to save the changes to the layout.
